Real Madrid join Coutinho pursuit; Barcelona scouting Tottenham's Winks

Real Madrid eye Coutinho

Barcelona face stiff competition from La Liga rivals Real Madrid to sign Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The report states that Madrid are ready to muscle in on Barcelona's "Operation Coutinho," after enquiring about the Brazilian's availability with Liverpool.
Coutinho has been lined up for a January move to the Nou Camp, but Madrid are happy to wait until next summer to finalise a deal should the 25-year-old remain at Anfield.
Paris Saint-Germain also are monitoring Coutinho's situation, as his value looks set to hit the €150 million mark.
For their part, Barca have drawn up a four-man short list should they fail to sign Coutinho. Schalke duo Leon Goretzka and Max Meyer both feature on the list of targets, along with Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt and Monaco's Thomas Lemar.

Barcelona chase Winks

Barcelona are tracking Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks with a view to making an offer in the summer, claims The Sun.
The Catalan giants sent scouts to check in on Spurs' home and away matches against Real Madrid in the Champions League and received glowing reports of Winks' performances.
It's thought that Christian Eriksen was the main interest for Barca, but Winks' displays were so impressive that the 21-year-old was singled out by sporting director Robert Fernandez.
Tottenham have reportedly offered Winks a new contract as he looks to build on his England debut against Lithuania.

Can to Man City?

Following reports that Emre Can will leave Liverpool when his contract expires in the summer, Manchester City have emerged as serious contenders for his signature.
According to Calciomercato, the Premier League leaders will duke it out with Juventus for the Germany international, who has been offered around €4.5 million a year to move to Turin.
Can seems destined to leave Anfield after Liverpool refused to include a release clause in his contract.
The 23-year-old also is being tracked by Bayern Munich, who could be light in midfield if they lose Arturo Vidal to Inter Milan

Woman trapped in billionaire's New York lift all weekend

A woman has been rescued after spending an entire weekend trapped in her billionaire employer's lift, authorities said. The woman, reported to be 53-year-old Marites Fortaliza, entered the elevator at the Manhattan townhouse owned by investment banker Warren Stephens on Friday evening. Firefighters responded to an emergency call at 10:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Monday and forced the lift open. Ms Fortaliza is recovering in hospital. According to a family statement reported by the Associated Press Ms Fortaliza was dehydrated but in a stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center. She has been "a valued member of the Stephens extended family for 18 years" and a family member accompanied her to the hospital, they are quoted as saying. Governor jailed for sexual assault

A former South Korean governor and one-time presidential contender has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for rape, five months after he was controversially acquitted for the same crime. Ahn Hee-jung was jailed by an appeals court Friday for the rape and assault of Kim Ji-eun, his former assistant, Kim's lawyer Jung Hye-sun told CNN. Speaking after the verdict, Kim thanked her lawyers and witnesses who supported her case.
