Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas not giving up on catching Tottenham in UCL race

Image
Cesc Fabregas accepts he would rather be in Tottenham's position as Chelsea continue to give chase for a Champions League spot. Chelsea cut the Premier League gap to fourth-placed Spurs to two points as Fabregas secured a 1-0 win at relegation-threatened Swansea. But Spurs have a game in hand -- against Watford on Monday night -- and will be expected to win at Wembley and increase their advantage to five points with three games to play. "We won, so they [Spurs] will probably feel that they need to do well and not drop points anymore," Fabregas said. "But the advantage is for them because it's not up to us. "Even if we win every game and they do well, we will not be in the Champions League next year, so that's why I would prefer to be in their position. "We just have to keep on winning, but they obviously have the advantage because they are on top." Chelsea's third successive away win has also given them hope of overtaking

Fortnite: Drake and Ninja's Twitch battle gets huge crowd

Image
A team-up between rapper Drake and top Fortnite player Ninja has broken the record for the most people watching an individual's Twitch stream. More than 600,000 people tuned in to watch the pair play the survival co-op shooting game on the streaming service. Later on, the two were also joined by musician Travis Scott and NFL player JuJu Smith-Schuster. The event still fell shy of the overall record for the most people watching a Twitch stream, which is 1.1 million. That was set during the grand final of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in the 2018 ELeague tournament. But the Drake-Ninja collaboration is believed to be the biggest audience for a personal, non-tournament stream.  Ninja, also known as Tyler Blevins, had dropped hints about playing with Drake during the week leading up to the tie-up by regularly playing songs by the Canadian rapper while streaming. Speaking during the stream, Drake said he had been playing Fortnite for a couple of months and had use

Lewandowski, Ribery key to Bayern's hopes of UCL comeback

Image
Bayern Munich trail 2-1 ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg away at Real Madrid but all is not lost. Here's five reasons why Bayern can turn the tie around in their favour ... Lethal Lewandowski Last season, Carlo Ancelotti's misfiring side were good enough to beat Real 2-1 in 90 minutes to extend the tie into extra time, with a half-fit Robert Lewandowski subbed towards the end with a nagging shoulder injury. He's fully fit this time around and Bayern's top scorer will be hurt by the criticism of his off-colour first leg performance -- missing a couple of chances he would normally gobble up in the Bundesliga. Bayern will need Lewandowski at the top of his game, adding to his 39 goals for the season, to fire them to victory against potentially his next employers. Help from the referee In last season's quarterfinal exit, referee Viktor Kassai incurred Bayern's wrath following Arturo Vidal's dismissal. CEO Karl-Heinz Rummeni

Japan's gripping manhunt ends in capture

Image
Japanese police have captured a fugitive who had eluded authorities for weeks in a bizarre drama that gripped the country. Tatsuma Hirao, 27, had made a run for it from an open prison in the town of Imabari. Police deployed more than 6,000 officers on the small island of Mukaishima, using everything from dogs to helicopters and drones. He was caught at a train station in Hiroshima, about 50km (30 miles) away. Hirao was not considered a dangerous criminal. Serving five and a half years for theft, he was being held at a facility where inmates are free to walk about without walls or fences. The system did not work in the case of Hirao. The first clues following his getaway were on Mukaishima. On the face of it, the 57 sq km (22 sq mile) island of 22,000 people should not have been an easy place to hide. Yet despite using helicopters, sniffer dogs and drones, Hirao kept eluding his pursuers. All the police found were small clues: fingerprints, items like socks or mobil

Nigeria President Buhari to meet Trump in Washington

Image
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will become the first leader from sub-Saharan Africa to be received by US President Donald Trump when he arrives in Washington for talks later. They are expected to discuss shared economic and security interests. But many will also be watching the talks closely after a row over Mr Trump's alleged use of the word "shithole" to describe African nations. Mr Trump denied being a racist after the reported crude remark. He also denied making the comment What's the agenda for Trump-Buhari talks? At home, President Buhari faces multiple security challenges, including the nine-year-old insurgency by Boko Haram jihadists in the north-east, and mounting insecurity in the centre of the country. So fighting terrorism is a priority for both administrations, our correspondent adds. The White House recently sold 12 counter insurgency aircraft worth $496m (£360m) to Nigeria to help in its fight against Boko Haram. The US previou

Marouane Fellaini trusted by Jose Mourinho but Manchester United must move on

Image
No player divides opinion quite like Marouane Fellaini at Manchester United. To many, he is a symbol of the club's decline in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era -- a player who embodies United's limitations and one who would not even be considered for Old Trafford had the Scot still be in charge. For others, however, he is an example of perseverance, dedication, character and, certainly from Jose Mourinho's perspective, a player who offers unique qualities that give United a crucial Plan B when the chips are down. Fellaini's stoppage time winner against Arsenal on Sunday was an example of Plan B being executed to perfection -- a long ball, won by the towering Belgian, which found its way into the net off the back of Fellaini's head. It wasn't pretty, but it was effective -- a summation which could pretty well describe Fellaini's career. His winner against Arsenal brought Fellaini's Old Trafford future back into sharp focus, however, with t

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah unlikely to leave, at right place to 'shine' - Cesc Fabregas

Image
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has hailed former teammate Mohamed Salah for his extraordinary season and said he does not expect him to leave Liverpool any time soon. Salah has scored 43 goals in 47 games in all competitions and been named PFA Player of the Year in a dazzling debut campaign following his summer arrival from Roma. "I coincided with Salah in my first season at Chelsea [2014-15] before he left for Fiorentina," Fabregas told Cadena Cope radio. "He was young, he hardly played, but you could already see that he had talent. He always worked very hard and he gave his all." Salah made 20 appearances for Chelsea before loan spells in Italy at Fiorentina and Roma, who later made the move permanent, and Fabregas said he had found the right environment under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. "Football is a lot about confidence," he said. "The confidence that a coach can give you nowadays to achieve your best form is key. "It is for a

Kenya bans Rafiki ahead of Cannes debut over lesbian scenes

Image
The first Kenyan film to debut at the Cannes Film Festival has been banned in Kenya due to its lesbian storyline. The film Rafiki, which means "friend" in Swahili, traces the love story between two young women. The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) said the film "seeks to legitimize lesbian romance". KFCB warned that anyone found in possession of the film would be in breach of the law in Kenya, where gay sex is punishable by 14 years. The film's director Wanuri Kahiu told the BBC: "I really had hoped that the classification board would classify it as an 18. Because we feel the Kenyan audience is a mature, discerning enough audience." "I feel like the banning of the film does not allow the Kenyan audience to have a conversation about the film, and doesn't allow the Kenyan audience to even watch it and as adults decide what they think."  The film, which will be shown in Cannes next month, is adapted from the 2007 Cain

Man United's Jose Mourinho regrets 'negative episodes' with Arsene Wenger

Image
MANCHESTER -- Jose Mourinho has admitted he has "regrets" about his fractious relationship with Arsene Wenger and hopes the Frenchman will get a good reception from Manchester United fans on his final trip to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager this weekend. Mourinho branded Wenger, who will leave the Emirates at the end of the season, a "specialist in failure" and a "voyeur" during his time in charge of Chelsea, while their spat also featured a touchline bust-up in 2014. But ahead of Arsenal's trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, Mourinho says he is happier their relationship is now more cordial. He told a news conference on Friday: "There are little things where it would be obviously better without them, some gestures, some words would be better without it. "I feel better now without it, no doubts about it. Regret? The little negative episodes, yes I do and maybe he does." Wenger has been subjected to abuse from sections of Unit

Man United set to say goodbye to longtime rival and worthy adversary Arsene Wenger

Image
Wenger wasn't popular with most United fans. He was seen as ungracious and supercilious, but to be wasting time arguing over him was a compliment of sorts, since the Frenchman's chief crime was leading a football team to the title at the expense of Manchester United, who'd won the previous three. John had no reason to worry about Manchester City or Chelsea in 2002, since City weren't a Premier League team and Chelsea finished behind both Manchester United and Leeds United. Arsenal and United were the top dogs in England, their rivalry an epic one between 1996-2004. The pair finished first and second in five of six seasons between 1998-2003 with United's Ruud van Nistelrooy and Arsenal's Thierry Henry the best two strikers in the league. United fans may have considered Liverpool bigger rivals, but when I interviewed captain Roy Keane before the 2004-05 season, he begged to differ: "People mentioned the Chelseas, Liverpools and Newcastles pr

Wembly might be up for sale

Image
Of all the football venues in the world, the most famous is probably London's Wembley Stadium. It has been the home of English football for the better part of a century, the place where every budding young English footballer has dreamed of scoring in the FA Cup final and where Geoff Hurst scored the hat trick that won England's only World Cup. There is something about Wembley that speaks from the depths of English football's heart. Yet the guardian of the national game, The Football Association, has been in discussions for the past six months over the sale of its Wembley National Stadium (WNSL) subsidiary to the American billionaire Shahid Khan, who also owns Fulham FC and the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. Reaction to the news has been mixed. Some say it is lunacy to sell the crown jewel of English football and, with it, the fixed assets that anchor The FA's balance sheet. Others lament the impending loss of a treasured emotional asset. Yet, whatever

What to Do if You Accidentally Delete Photos From Your Phone

Image
On iOS , this one’s easy. If you delete a photo (or all of your photos ever), they’re not gone for good the moment you tap the trash can icon. Scroll down through your albums in Photos. The very last one you should see—in the main “Albums” listing, not the secondary “My Albums” listing—is an album called Recently Deleted. You can’t miss it. Its icon is boring, gray, and trash-can-shaped. Tap that, and you’ll be able to restore anything you accidentally deleted. Your iPhone will keep deleted photos around for just around a month or so. the dates listed on the photos are countdowns. Once they reach zero, the photos are automatically exiled from your device forever. The same is true for any photos you delete on iCloud. They aren’t gone forever—at least, not initially. Just go restore them from the Recently Deleted folder. Ta-da. Android users have a similar deal. First off, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be automatically backing up all of your photos to Google Photo

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy phone might have three screens. Yes, three.

Image
Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone, unofficially dubbed the Galaxy X, is expected to incorporate a whopping three LED panels, reports The Bell (via Forbes ). When fully unfolded, two of the 3.5-inch LED panels would combine to create a massive seven-inch display — almost as large as that of the iPad Mini.  The third panel, which you use when it's in "phone mode," would be on the back of the device when it's in "tablet mode." Basically, think of this hybrid device as a book with a screen on the front, and two screens on the inside. If true, this leak would be in line with other rumors we've heard this year. Samsung has been eyeing foldable displays since as far back as 2011, when it released a concept video of a transparent, foldable tablet.  A Samsung executive noted at this year's Mobile World Congress that the company aims to market the first high-end foldable smartphone. It was rumored that we'd see the folding Galaxy

Jose Mourinho blames Chelsea for selling Mohamed Salah in 2016: 'I bought him'

Image
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has told ESPN Brazil he deserves credit for bringing Mohamed Salah to Stamford Bridge, not the blame for selling the Liverpool star to Roma in 2016. Mourinho and Chelsea acquired a 21-year-old Salah from Basel for €16.5 million in January of 2014. However, the Egypt international found opportunities hard to come by at the club and was loaned to Fiorentina the following winter and then sold to Roma a year later. Salah returned to the Premier League at the start of this season, signing with Liverpool for a then club-record fee of €42m, and has been a revelation for Jurgen Klopp's side, scoring 43 goals in all competitions and being named the PFA Player of the Year. Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Mourinho acknowledged Salah's blossoming at Anfield. "I think everything has surprised even him. It has been fantastic," the Manchester United boss said of Salah's breakout season. "But he is a great player that has reach

Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa can intimidate Arsenal - Diego Simeone

Image
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone insists Diego Costa is fit and ready to intimidate Arsenal in Thursday's Europa League semifinal. Former Chelsea striker Costa scored three times in six games against the Gunners during his time at Stamford Bridge, including the equaliser in last season's FA Cup final which Arsenal went on to win 2-1. The Spain international always seemed to be able to rile the Arsenal defence and was directly involved in red cards issued to Gabriel and Per Mertesacker during separate clashes between the teams. Asked if Costa was included to intimidate Arsenal or give his teammates a boost, Simeone replied: "Knowing Diego Costa, I think all of those apply to him. "Both in England and in Spain, many teams have suffered at the hands of Diego Costa. Not just Arsenal. He has improved." Costa left Chelsea under a cloud after a spat with Antonio Conte as he returned to Atletico in time to be registered in the January transfer wind

Macron believes Trump will drop Iran nuclear deal

Image
French President Emmanuel Macron has said he may have failed in efforts to persuade Donald Trump to stick to an international nuclear deal with Iran. "My view is... that he will get rid of this deal on his own, for domestic reasons," Mr Macron said at the end of a three-day state visit to the US. Mr Trump has until 12 May to decide on the deal, which aimed to prevent Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. He has been a strong critic of the accord, calling it "insane". On Wednesday, Mr Macron used similar language to describe frequent shifts in the US position on global issues, including climate change and the Iran agreement. "It can work in the short term, but it's very insane in the medium to long term," he is quoted as telling reporters following a question and answer session with students at George Washington University. Under the terms of the agreement, reached under Mr Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, Iran agreed to mothball its

Arsenal's opponents Atletico Madrid provide possible direction for Wenger-less future

Image
It would be overly dramatic to suggest that 22 years and over 1,000 matches comes down to a two-legged Europa League tie, but Arsenal's performance over the next week against Atletico Madrid will play a significant role in shaping the mood at the Emirates upon Arsene Wenger's departure. Win, and Arsenal will start the Europa League final as favourites, with an opportunity to claim Wenger's first-ever European trophy and reclaim their position in the Champions League for next season. Lose, and this will be Arsenal's least successful campaign under Wenger, well adrift of the top four and, unlike last season, without any silverware. "It would," Wenger conceded, "Feel like an anticlimax." The challenge of Atletico is particularly fascinating, because it's difficult to think of another top-class European side that plays a more different style than Arsenal. Whereas Wenger has spent the past couple of decades creating an attack-minded,

Russia predicts World Cup will have $31 billion economic impact

Image
The World Cup could have a total impact on the Russian economy of nearly $31 billion, organisers predicted on Wednesday. A new report on the economic impact of the tournament said the boost for the country's GDP could amount to between 1.62 trillion rubles ($26 billion) and 1.92 trillion rubles ($30.8 billion) over the 10 years from 2013 through to 2023. That's attributed to growing tourism plus large-scale spending on construction, plus later knock-on effects from those government investments. It even suggests the World Cup will encourage Russians to exercise more, so they take fewer sick days. The World Cup "has a considerable economic effect," Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich says in the report. "The tournament has already boosted the economic development of the host regions and will continue to have a positive long-term economic impact." The report says the total spend on the tournament will be 683 billion rubles ($11 billion),

Thirteen children die as India school bus hits train

Image
Thirteen children have died after their school bus collided with a train in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police say. The bus had been travelling across an unmanned railway crossing when the accident took place. The incident comes weeks after 24 children died when their bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh state. Road accidents are common in India, often due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles. The latest incident took place in the Kushinagar region of Uttar Pradesh state. It is not yet known how many children were travelling in the bus. The state government has ordered an investigation into the incident and announced compensation to the families of those killed in the accident. A statement from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said he was on his way to the site of the accident.

Novak Djokovic upset; Rafael Nadal advances at Barcelona Open

Image
BARCELONA, Spain -- While Novak Djokovic struggles, Rafael Nadal keeps impressing. Djokovic lost again on Wednesday, this time falling to 140th-ranked Martin Klizan 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the second round of the Barcelona Open. Nadal, however, won again. He beat Roberto Carballes Baena 6-4, 6-4 for his 10th win in 11 ATP Tour matches this season. Djokovic is trying to return to form after a lingering right elbow injury. He hasn't made it past the last 16 in five tournaments this year. The 12th-ranked Serb got off to a slow start against Klizan but rebounded to force a third set. He was then broken while trailing 4-3, allowing the Slovak to serve out for the victory. "It's a great feeling, amazing," said Klizan, who had never beaten Djokovic in four previous matches. "I know that he didn't play top tennis, but a win is a win and I'm happy to be in the third round. I always play good tennis in Barcelona; I'm just enjoying it." Djokovic dec

Trump thanks Kanye West for Twitter compliments

Image
Rapper Kanye West is already under fire after his recent return to Twitter for tweeting his support for US President Donald Trump. West, 40, posted a series of pro-Trump tweets, including a photo of himself wearing one of the president's red "Make American Great Again" hats. "You don't have to agree with Trump but the mob can't make me not love him," he tweeted. The president responded on Twitter: "Thank you Kanye, very cool!" West's wife, Kim Kardashian-West, quickly came to his defence after his tweets sparked online backlash.  "To the media trying to demonise my husband let me just say this... your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair," she tweeted. West, who met Mr Trump in December 2016 af

Cristiano Ronaldo still sets UCL record despite goal streak ending

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo set a record with his 96th win in the Champions League on Wednesday, though he saw his goal streak come to an end. Ronaldo has now appeared in more games in which his team won than any other player, moving past Iker Casillas, as Real Madrid won 2-1 at Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal. The victory was also an important one for Real Madrid as a club as well -- they became the first team to win 150 Champions League games. The landmark victory came on the same night that Ronaldo moved level with Xavi for the second-most appearances in the competition with 151. Only former Real keeper Casillas has played in more games at 167. However, Ronaldo was largely frustrated at Bayern, as he was held without a shot on target for the first time in his last 39 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. The game also ended his run of 12 straight club games with a goal, which had been tied for the longest in his career. Ronaldo

Woman 'fined $500 over free Delta Air Lines flight apple'

Image
A woman says she is facing a $500 (£357) fine from the US customs agency after a free apple she was given as a snack on a plane was found in her bag. Crystal Tadlock, travelling to the US from Paris, said she was saving the fruit for her onward flight to Denver. But the apple was revealed in a random search by US border agents after her first flight landed in Minneapolis. US Customs and Border Patrol would not comment on the case, but said all agricultural items should be declared. The apple was handed out in a plastic Delta Air Lines bag. Ms Tadlock said she did not remove it from the bag, instead putting it in her baggage for the second part of her journey to Denver, Colorado. When the apple was found, Ms Tadlock told the agent that she had just received it from the airline and asked whether she should throw it out or eat it. Instead the agent handed her a $500 fine. Ms Tadlock now has the choice of paying the fine or fighting the penalty in court. She told the

Elderly dog helps save girl lost in Australian bush

Image
Australian police have praised a dog for remaining with a three-year-old girl as she spent a night lost in bushland. The girl, Aurora, had been the subject of a large search after she wandered away from her home in Queensland. She was followed by her family's 17-year-old cattle dog, Max, who is partially deaf and blind. The dog stayed with the girl for 16 hours before relatives found them on a hillside on Saturday morning. Aurora's grandmother, Leisa Marie Bennett, said she had heard the girl call out from the location, about 2km (1.2 miles) from home. "I shot up the mountain and when I came to the top, the dog came to me and led me straight to her," she told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. Relatives said Aurora had taken shelter with the dog under a rock as temperatures d ipped to 15C (59F). She suffered only minor cuts. More than 100 emergency workers and volunteers had taken part in the search in Queensland's Southern Downs. Police praised M

North Korea bus crash kills 32 Chinese tourists

Image
A tour bus has crashed in North Korea, killing 36 people including 32 Chinese nationals, Chinese officials say. The crash, which also killed four North Koreans, happened in North Hwanghae province on Sunday night. Chinese state media footage showed the blue tour bus completely flipped over, with part of its body broken. Experts estimate that Chinese tourists make up 80% of foreign tourists to North Korea - providing an important source of currency for Pyongyang. China is also the secretive regime's main political ally and largest trading partner. Earlier, Chinese state broadcaster CGTN tweeted that more than 30 Chinese nationals had been killed after the bus plunged off a bridge - however, the post was later deleted. There are no official tourist numbers for North Korea, but it is estimated that about 100,000 foreigners visit the country each year. Tourists are subjected to tight restrictions - most visitors must be escorted at all times outside their hotels by g

They snatched my passport, I snatched it back, Melaye speaks on arrest

Image
Lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has been reportedly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on his way to Morocco. It was learnt that the senator and other passengers had boarded the plane and the aircraft was about to taxi when policemen were said to have stopped the take-off, asking the passengers to disembark from the plane. He said, “‎My self and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and others were to be on an official trip to Morocco but while some have gone through the Lagos airport today, others are to depart tomorrow. “I got to this airport I was checked in and was already in the lounge waiting for departure. Immigration officers invited me that there is a directive from the police that I can’t travel; that I am on their watch list. And I said it was not true, that the INTERPOL said they had not issue an alert on me. I opened INTERPOL’s website and showed them the denial. But they insisted
