Ozil hits hat-trick in Arsenal mauling

It was the first time Arsenal had faced Bulgarian opposition in any competition but the visitors' task at a chilly Emirates Stadum always looked an ominous one. The last Bulgarian side to win a European away game against an English side was CSKA Sofia over 30 years ago, against Nottingham Forest, and that did not look like changing for a minute here.Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was able to hand starting sports to Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, both of whom have found playing time difficult to come by over the past few weeks. David Ospina once again took over from Petr Cech, as he has done for Champions League group stage games after forging a deal with Wenger before the season started, and he once again looked solid and confident when tested in goal, although those moments were few and far between. Brazilian midfielder Wanderson missed a superb opportunity to pull one back for the away side when he flashed an effort wide of Ospina’s post but Arsenal’s dominance was total otherwise.

Christmas tragedy.... Governor dies just few days after being sworn into office in an air crash

The governor of Mexico's central Puebla state, Martha Erika Alonso, has died in an air crash, just days after being sworn into office. Her husband, Senator Rafael Moreno Valle, was also killed. Reports from Mexico say the accident happened shortly after the aircraft took off from the city of Puebla. Ms Alonso, 45, became the first female governor of Puebla after hotly contested elections. She was member of the centre-right PAN party. The deaths were confirmed by Mexico's new President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. In a tweet (in Spanish), President López Obrador expressed "deepest condolences" the relatives of the two politicians. He said an investigation would be launched to establish "the truth" about what caused the crash. Manchester United's Jose Mourinho told me I had future at club - Andreas Pereira

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has told ESPN Brasil that Jose Mourinho contacted him regularly last season to let him know that he was going "to have a future" at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old made 13 appearances for the first team during Louis van Gaal's tenure before Mourinho opted to send him on loan to Granada and Valencia the following campaigns in order to secure more regular time in La Liga. Pereira made the most of the opportunity to impress Mourinho, and the United boss showed his faith in the Belgium-born Brazil youth international last week by giving him a starting role in the 2-1 victory over Leicester City.
