Android 7.1 Nougat rollout date confirmed by Vodafone Australia

NEW DELHI: Recently, Android's vice president of engineering Dave Burke revealed that the Android 7.1 Nougat OS version will be rolling out to Nexus and other compatible devices in December 2016. However, the exact date of the rollout was not communicated.

Now, according to Vodafone Australia, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be hitting the Nexus 6P from December 6. The new comes from Vodafone Australia's official support page.

The update is claimed to weigh around 650MB and will come with December security patches and bug fixes as well. Since it will a phased roll out (as all updates are), the OS version may take a few days before all eligible handsets get it.

For those unaware, Android 7.1 Developer Preview is already available for the most-recent latest Nexus handsets, the Nexus 6P and the 5X.

Last month, Google officially announced Android 7.1 Nougat OS. Some of the features in the update include DayDream VR support, A/B system update, app shortcuts and image keyboard support.

The list of Nexus devices that are eligible to receive the Android 7.1 Nougat includes Motorola Nexus 6, HTC Nexus 9, Huawei Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, Pixel C and the Asus Nexus Player. Android One-based devices will also get the new OS version. The first ones to get the update will be Nexus 6P, 5X and the Pixel C, all of which were launched last year.
