Mario Balotelli's had the best Ligue 1 goalscoring start since Zlatan

Image
His tally of six goals in five games is only bettered by the King himself. Mario Balotelli's settling well in France. Like, really really well. He's scored six goals in five Ligue 1 matches, a tally only bettered by none other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself. Ibra joined PSG in 2012, scoring seven goals in his first five Ligue 1 matches, and PSG won the title his first year in town. It's still obviously way too early to call winners this year, but Balo's goals do have Nice six points clear atop the Ligue 1 table, ahead of both AS Monaco and Zlatan's old club, PSG. Nice beat Nantes on Sunday, with Balotelli grabbing his sixth goal of the season. Remarkably, he's got a goal in  every single match this season aside from one. Balo's new manager Lucien Favre is happy with his performances so far, but believes he still has plenty of work to do and improvement ahead of him: "He made a great run for his goal. He's very good in

FBI gets warrant to read Hillary Clinton probe emails

Image
The FBI has obtained a warrant to start reviewing emails found on a laptop used by top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her husband Anthony Weiner, according to reports from US media. The Wall Street Journal says the number of emails could total 650,000 - though not all of them are expected to be relevant to the Clinton investigation. This comes after Friday's bombshell that the FBI was again reviewing emails related to the democratic presidential candidate's private server. In a letter to Congress, the agency's director, James Comey, said new information had prompted an additional review of the case that ended in July. Former Congressman Mr Weiner is being investigated separately after claims he exchanged illicit text messages with a teenager. The FBI conducted a months-long investigation into whether Mrs Clinton had broken the law by using a private email server during her time as US Secretary of State, by allowing sensitive information to be d

Italy was struck by its fourth earthquake in three months on Sunday morning, a 6.6-magnitude tremor which injured twenty people and leveled a historic basilica. The deadly series of tremors has destroyed many historic buildings and landmarks. The first, in August, killed nearly 300 people and flattened villages around the mountain town of Amatrice. Sunday's was the strongest to hit the country in more than three decades. Why has this part of Italy been struck so many times by disastrous quakes? Is this country witnessing a steady increasing in tectonic activity?   Will there be more? It isn't over yet -- aftershocks were still continuing in the region early on Monday morning. "Following the earthquake there have been hundreds and we've already had 40 today ... I would imagine they would continue," Tatham said. Hayes at the USGS said the initial quake in August was the start of the current spate of tremors and there could be more to

Female suicide bombers suspected in deadly Nigeria blasts

Image
Female suicide bombers are suspected to be behind the twin explosions that rattled the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Saturday near a refugee camp and a fuel depot, officials said. The attacks targeted the city's Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons camp and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp.'s Mega Filling Station, the Nigerian army said in a statement. At least nine people were killed and 24 injured in the two explosions, according to the country's National Emergency Agency (NEMA). In the first attack the suspected bomber ran into a crowd at the entrance of the Bakassi IDP camp, killing five people, the army said. Ten minutes later and a mile away, a second blast killed three occupants on a motorized rickshaw at the entrance of a fuel depot owned by the National Oil Company. The army puts the total number of dead at 8. "While we commiserate with the families of the late victims of this cruel act and wish those injured speedy

Aleppo: Putin rejects army request to resume air raids

Image
The Russian president told his military to hold the ceasefire over rebel-held eastern Aleppo for the time being. Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected a request by his military to resume air raids over Syria's rebel-held eastern Aleppo. The Russian army said on Friday that it had asked the president for authorisation to resume its bombing campaign, but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin "considers it inappropriate at the current moment", adding the president thought it necessary to "continue the humanitarian pause" in the war-battered city. The request was made after Syrian opposition fighters launched an assault against the government-held western part of the city, firing rockets and detonating car bombs in a counter assault. Opposition activists say 15 civilians, including children, were killed in those attacks on government-held western Aleppo.  Rebels also targeted a military airbase.

Tom Heaton haunted Manchester United

Image
Heaton came up in the Manchester United academy and, at one point, looked like he could be the Red Devils' future backstop. But that never happened and he wanted a chance to play regularly. Eventually, he landed at Burnley and on Saturday, he got a crack at the Red Devils. To say he took advantage of his chance to show United what they lost is an understatement. Heaton was beyond terrific and his save on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's scissor kick was one of the best you will see. Manchester United have David De Gea, so they're happy with their goalkeeper, but Heaton must have been happy to single-handedly deny the Red Devils a win.

At Chicago O'Hare, American Airlines 767 catches fire on runway.

The right-side engine of an American Airlines Boeing 767 failed Friday during an attempted takeoff, sending debris as far as a half mile and passengers hurriedly down emergency slides onto a runway at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. Three sources familiar with the unfolding investigation told CNN the General Electric engine suffered an apparent "uncontained" failure. The 161 terrified passengers and nine crew members scrambled to safety Friday afternoon after huge flames erupted on the right side of the plane. Airport fire Chief Timothy Sampey said crews responded to a report of a No. 2 engine on fire. The plane, which had stopped well before the end of the runway, had about 43,000 pounds of fuel. "This could have been absolutely devastating if it happened later," he said. About 20 people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries that occurred during the evacuation down the emergency slides, District Chief Juan Herna

Premier League picks: Predictions for every EPL game on Matchday 10

Image
It's another busy weekend of Premier League action on Matchday 10. Some critical Champions League clashes loom after the weekend, which could influence team selections (and maybe even motivation). Win, lose or draw, here's how we predict each and every Premier League game will shake out. Saturday: Sunderland vs. Arsenal The Black Cats couldn't correct their tailspin last week against West Ham, and it's unlikely they will be able to in Saturday's early match against Arsenal. Sunderland have a paltry two points from their first nine matches and David Moyes hasn't been able to stem the tide. Arsenal were handed a surprising draw last week against Middlesbrough, but they're tied with Liverpool for the most road points collected on the season. Against the dumpster fire that is Sunderland, the Gunners will pick up another trio of points. Final score: Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal Saturday: Middlesbrough vs. Bournemouth Bor

Ranking the soccer world's 15 best-dressed managers

Image
Being a high-profile manager in a sport like soccer means the spotlight's always on. Fashion and the game go hand-in-hand, and there are some managers who "get it" more than others. These are the top 15 managers in the world, ranked by sartorial swag. [15] Jogi Low - Germany Jogi Low is a pretty smartly dressed dude. He mostly keeps it simple with dressy monochrome, sometimes rocking a tie, but more often with a plain button-down and tailored suit. He might've moved up a couple slots on the list if he wasn't constantly getting caught picking his nose or rubbing at himself, but ... here we are.  [14] Mauricio Pochettino - Tottenham Hotspur Maurico Pochettino's one of those managers that can rock a suit or a full warm-up and still look comfortable and stylish either way. He keeps it classic, but he knows how to add the subtle details that really make a fit pop.  [13] Bob Bradley - Swansea Bob came up. He started out

Ronaldo says there's no 'big rivalry' between him and Messi, just respect

Image
Just about any discussion on a soccer message board or comments section can and will devolve into a Ronaldo vs. Messi argument (it's one of Murphy's Laws), but CR7 himself says there's no rivalry between him and the little Argentine. They're not friends either, but there's plenty of respect between the two. When asked by Coach magazine which opponent he admires the most, Ronaldo said: "There is a big mutual respect between myself and Lionel Messi. The media like to make out like we have this big rivalry, but we don't. It is not like we are good friends, but there is a mutual respect on both sides." Both Ronaldo and Messi have long maintained that there's no longstanding feud between the two, and Ronaldo's son is even a diehard Messi fan. Nothing seems to have changed with Ronaldo's latest statements, even with his struggles so far this season, scoring just four goals in nine matches to Messi's 14 over the same period.

What happens to MMM in the near future?????

Going by the fact that billions of Naira have exchanged hands among MMM Nigeria members, a Ponzi Scheme that has just collapsed in Zimbabwe and South Africa. To know when MMM Nigeria will likely fizzle out, one just need to look at how long it took in other countries before it collapsed. Senate Passes Bill that Proposes a 5-year Jail Term for Randy Lecturers for 2nd Reading

Image
The Senate has passed a bill for second reading that prescribes five year jail term for randy lecturers. The bill also proposed a two year jail term for vice chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics and other chief executives of institutions of higher learning if they fail to act within a week on complaints of sexual harassment made by students. The bill sponsored by  Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta-Central) and 57 others received support from most of the members of the Red Chamber. But Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) cautioned that targeting a section of the society to make a law would be counter productive. Abdullahi said that people were only talking about sexual harassment in tertiary institutions because the institutions are open society. According to Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West), however differed, saying that students also harass their lecturers by offering to sleep with them, having dressed provocatively. “Mr Pres

Henrikh Mkhitaryan already being ushered out the Man United door?

Image
Henrikh Mkhitaryan arrived at Manchester United with much excitement: a £30 million price tag and the Bundesliga Player of the Year, but the Sun believes that after just six months, Jose Mourinho is prepared to cash-in on the Armenian. The Red Devils boss has handed the 27-year-old just one start since he transferred from Borussia Dortmund with a dramatic exit in January now being floated. It would represent one of the most drastic declines for a top class player in recent memory with a host of clubs likely to form a less-than-orderly queue as one of the most gifted playmakers in Europe becomes available in the market.

Pope opens private summer residence to visitors

This is the bedroom where two Popes, Pius XII and Paul VI, died, and where Pope John Paul II recovered from an assassination attempt Pope Francis has once again bucked tradition by opening his exclusive papal vacation apartments for public viewing. The Apostolic Palace at Castel Gandolfo, for centuries the summer residence and vacation retreat of the leader of the Catholic Church, is located 25 kilometers outside of Rome on Lake Albano. Before his coma he spoke English; after waking up he's fluent in Spanish

Image
life's been full of uncertainties for Reuben Nsemoh lately. Ever since he suffered a concussion in a soccer game, the suburban Atlanta teen's worried about why it's so hard for him to concentrate. He's fretted over whether he'll ever get to play his favorite sport. But the biggest stumper of all: how is it that he's suddenly speaking fluent Spanish? Nsemoh, a 16-year-old high school sophomore, ended up in the coma last month after another player kicked him in the head during a game. When he woke up, he did something he'd never done before: speak Spanish like a native. His parents said he could already speak some Spanish, but he was never fluent in it until his concussion. Slowly, his English is coming back, and he's starting to lose his Spanish fluency. A rare condition Foreign accent syndrome is an extremely rare condition in which brain injuries  change a person's

Cristiano Ronaldo accused of offending Buddhists with 'disrespectful' Instagram post

Image
When you've got nearly 80 million followers on Instagram, chances are your posts will offend someone. That's exactly what has happened to Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been accused of 'disrespecting' the Buddhist faith after he posted a picture of himself alongside a statue on Thursday evening. T he Real Madrid striker's seemingly innocent pose outside his Madrid home infuriated a number of fans on social media who took issue with Ronaldo's foot position. Ronaldo's right foot is resting at the base of the Buddhist statue, a detail that prompted a flurry of angry responses from Buddhists. "Hi dude but its basic knowledge that you cannot put your foot on a religious statue," one follower wrote. "Pls don 't do this. We r buddhist. My god. My trust. but under of your legs. It's so rude. "This is not cool at all man. I know ur not Buddhist but plz respect for other religions," added one disappointed fan.

Ozil hits hat-trick in Arsenal mauling

Image
It was the first time Arsenal had faced Bulgarian opposition in any competition but the visitors' task at a chilly Emirates Stadum always looked an ominous one. The last Bulgarian side to win a European away game against an English side was CSKA Sofia over 30 years ago, against Nottingham Forest, and that did not look like changing for a minute here.Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was able to hand starting sports to Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, both of whom have found playing time difficult to come by over the past few weeks. David Ospina once again took over from Petr Cech, as he has done for Champions League group stage games after forging a deal with Wenger before the season started, and he once again looked solid and confident when tested in goal, although those moments were few and far between. Brazilian midfielder Wanderson missed a superb opportunity to pull one back for the away side when he flashed an effort wide of Ospina’s post but Arsenal’s dominanc

Police Van Rams Protesters At Anti-U.S. Demonstration In Philippines

STR/AFP/Getty Images      Outside the U.S. Embassy in Manila, a protest against the U.S. military presence in the Philippines ended with a violent police crackdown, including a police van ramming into protesters. Police also used tear gas against the crowds and arrested dozens of protesters, according to NPR's Anthony Kuhn. The Associated Press reports that several demonstrators were taken to the hospital after they were struck by a police van — reportedly driven by a Philippine police officer — that rammed into the protest: " Associated Press TV footage showed the va

Nissan's Ghosn to serve as Mitsubishi Motors chairman

Image
TOKYO -- Nissan Motor President Carlos Ghosn will serve as chairman of scandal-hit Mitsubishi Motors , sources said on Wednesday. Nissan has asked Osamu Masuko, Mitsubishi's chairman and president, to stay on as president, the sources said. By the end of the month, Nissan plans to acquire a 34% stake in Mitsubishi, which is struggling in the aftermath of a scandal over false mileage data. The idea is to kick-start the reform process by having Ghosn -- the chief of the Nissan-Renault alliance -- oversee Mitsubishi's management. Mitsubishi's board is to sign off on the decision after a shareholders meeting in December.  The data scandal came to light in April, when the company admitted that employees manipulated fuel economy information for its minicars. With the planned investment, Mitsubishi will effectively join the Nissan group. Ghosn, who will be directly involved in running Mitsubishi, will work to change the automaker's culture and explore sy

The Red Devils defender sees his choice of footwear called into question by mischievous Young and Mata

Image
Football may be famed for its fashion icons – think David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo – but not everyone can be on trend all of the time, as Manchester United’s Eric Bailly has found out to his peril. The training ground can be an unforgiving place for those that dare to break the mould, with anything out of the ordinary seized upon by mischievous team-mates. In years gone by, any questionable clobber would be shredded or set on fire and hung out of the dressing room window. Manchester United, it would appear, are a little more respectful of people’s belongings, but then they are living in an era where social media offers a window to the world and there is no longer a need for banter with club colleagues to be kept in-house. Ashley Young was the first to pull Ivory Coast international Bailly up on his choice of footwear on Tuesday, as the Red Devils regrouped on the back of their goalless draw at Liverpool.   He was prepared to keep the defender’s ident
