Kerala floods: A million in camps and thousands stranded

Nearly 400 people have died and thousands remained stranded by the worst flooding in the Indian state of Kerala in a century.
More than one million people have been displaced, many of them taking shelter in thousands of relief camps across the state.
As the monsoon rains begin to ease, efforts are being stepped up to get relief supplies to isolated areas.
In other parts, the hard work of cleaning up is under way.

Ronaldo says there's no 'big rivalry' between him and Messi, just respect

Just about any discussion on a soccer message board or comments section can and will devolve into a Ronaldo vs. Messi argument (it's one of Murphy's Laws), but CR7 himself says there's no rivalry between him and the little Argentine. They're not friends either, but there's plenty of respect between the two. When asked by Coach magazine which opponent he admires the most, Ronaldo said: "There is a big mutual respect between myself and Lionel Messi. The media like to make out like we have this big rivalry, but we don't. It is not like we are good friends, but there is a mutual respect on both sides." Both Ronaldo and Messi have long maintained that there's no longstanding feud between the two, and Ronaldo's son is even a diehard Messi fan. Australia weather: January was hottest month on record

Australia recorded its hottest month ever in January, with average temperatures exceeding 30C (86F) for the first time. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the extreme heat was "unprecedented" during the country's summer period. At least five January days were among the 10 warmest on record, with daily national temperature highs of 40C. The heat has caused wildfire deaths, bushfires and a rise in hospital admissions. Several wildlife species have also suffered, with reports of mass deaths of wild horses, native bats and fish in drought-affected areas.
