Liverpool's Mohamed Salah follows Cristiano Ronaldo with the worse statue ever

It has become something of a rite of passage for professional footballers, to have a strange, questionable and/or slightly insulting statue erected in your honour.
Some big names have been given with some even bigger eyesores in the past, and now Mohamed Salah can count himself as a member of the club.
The Liverpool forward has been immortalised by Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel Allah, who unveiled her work at the World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday.

While the skill involved cannot be denied, fans were quick to point out that the sculpture bore an uncanny resemblance to several other well-known figures, including Art Garfunkel and actor Daniel Stern, who played Marv the burglar in "Home Alone."

Either way, Salah now has his very own curious statue and that, in footballing terms, is nothing short of a badge of honour -- semi-official confirmation of superstar status.

Radamel Falcao

We can only assumed sculptor Antonio Irisma didn't have a good photo of the Monaco striker to hand during the entire design and modelling process.

Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan city of Salto paid humble tribute to their most famous son by unveiling a pint-sized statue of Suarez on a street corner in 2016.

Diego Maradona

Maradona has inspired dozens of effigies over the years, though not many have stood out as flattering. The least complimentary of all must surely be the 12-foot statue of the Argentine legend that went on display in Kolkata, India, last year -- being that it looked more like Bobby Ewing from Dallas.

Hulk

Almost a year after he had left the club, Porto unveiled an odd grey statue of the Brazilian striker in their club museum the Estadio do Dragao. Allied to the strange rubbery material from which it was made, the figure also saw Hulk in a topless pose, flexing his muscles for the visiting public to behold.

Michael Essien

Essien joined the club in January of 2018 when a statue of the midfielder appeared in a car park in the Ghanaian city of Kumasi. As you can see, the local artist responsible absolutely brought his vision to life, assuming his vision was of C-3PO in a Chelsea shirt.

Asamoah Gyan

Not to be perturbed, the same artist who created the Essien model then turned his/her hand to another Ghana legend in the similarly angular shape of Asamoah Gyan -- a fitting tribute to the Black Stars' all-time leading goal scorer.
