El Chapo 'paid $100m bribe to ex president

Former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto accepted a $100m (£77m) bribe from drug cartel kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, a witness has testified. Alex Cifuentes, who says he was a close associate of Guzmán for years, told a New York City courtroom that he had told authorities of the bribe in 2016. Guzmán is accused of being behind the Sinaloa drug cartel, which prosecutors say was the largest US drug supplier. Mr Peña Nieto served as the president of Mexico from 2012 to 2018. Guzmán, 61, has been on trial in Brooklyn since November after he was extradited from Mexico to face charges of trafficking cocaine, heroin and other drugs as leader of what the US has called the world's largest drug cartel. Ja Rule says he was scammed by Billy McFarland too

Ja Rule claims he was scammed and lost money through his involvement with 2017's Fyre Festival. The rapper has spoken out after two documentaries shed light on what happened at the flop Bahamas event. Ticket holders were promised a weekend partying with influencers on a private island but instead got rain-soaked mattresses in disaster tents and their luggage dumped in an unlit car-park. Ja denied he was involved in defrauding party-goers and locals on the island. Tickets for the festival were available for up to $75,000 (£58,000). Billy McFarland, founder of Fyre, is serving a six-year jail term but Ja Rule was not arrested or charged in connection with the fraud. Luis Suarez says Barcelona are under pressure and must deliver the goods this season after Lionel Messi promised supporters the players will do everything they can to win back the Champions League from Real Madrid. Despite winning three domestic doubles in the last four years, Barca, who last conquered the continent in 2015, have watched in envy as their Clasico rivals have won three consecutive European Cups. In a speech to fans before the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Boca Juniors in August, Messi said that wrestling the Champions League trophy back from Madrid was Barca's top priority this year.
