Ox rejects Chelsea move

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a chance to move to Chelsea and would prefer to move to Liverpool or stay at the Emirates, according to a BBC report. Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, was the subject of a bid from Chelsea on Monday, with an ESPN FC source confirming that a fee had been agreed to bring the attacking midfielder and wing-back to Stamford Bridge. However, the BBC reported on Tuesday night that the England international has rejected a £40 million move to join Antonio Conte's team because he wants to be used a central midfielder and not at wing-back, where he believes Chelsea envision using him. In another revelation from the report, Oxlade-Chamberlain would apparently prefer a move to Liverpool over Chelsea in order to get his chance to play in his preferred role, with Jurgen Klopp's team expected to make a bid before Thursday's end to the summer window.

Arsenal reject Alexis Sanchez bid

Arsenal have turned down a massive £50m offer from Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez, but the Gunners remain unchanged on their position that the Chilean is not for sale. Arsenal risk losing the former Barcelona star on a free transfer next summer, but £50m is not enough, neither is Raheem Sterling and £30m. With less than 48 hours until the deadline, the Gunners face the very real prospect of losing Sanchez for free in 2018. The Mirror, as well as the BBC's David Ornstein, believe only huge money, or perhaps a player in exchange, can persuade the Gunners into a sale, with £70m floated as the figure that would be appropriate to sell at. The whispers of discontent are crescendoing into a dull roar at the Emirates, if the Telegraph is to be believed. The paper reports that the "majority of the first-team squad have now had enough of Sanchez and the saga regarding his future.

Tatsuma Hirao, 27, had made a run for it from an open prison in the town of Imabari. Woman trapped in billionaire's New York lift all weekend

A woman has been rescued after spending an entire weekend trapped in her billionaire employer's lift, authorities said. The woman, reported to be 53-year-old Marites Fortaliza, entered the elevator at the Manhattan townhouse owned by investment banker Warren Stephens on Friday evening. Firefighters responded to an emergency call at 10:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Monday and forced the lift open. Ms Fortaliza is recovering in hospital. According to a family statement reported by the Associated Press Ms Fortaliza was dehydrated but in a stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center. She has been "a valued member of the Stephens extended family for 18 years" and a family member accompanied her to the hospital, they are quoted as saying. Mr Stephens is the head of Stephens Inc, an investment bank based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Governor jailed for sexual assault

A former South Korean governor and one-time presidential contender has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for rape, five months after he was controversially acquitted for the same crime. Ahn Hee-jung was jailed by an appeals court Friday for the rape and assault of Kim Ji-eun, his former assistant, Kim's lawyer Jung Hye-sun told CNN. Speaking after the verdict, Kim thanked her lawyers and witnesses who supported her case. "I can say goodbye to my torturous time when I was forced to live feeling like a witch to be burnt," she said. "I'd like to share all the help I received with other victims who still have to prove everything in their lonely fights. I'd like to send my solidarity to all the victims of sexual crimes whether they spoke about their cases but were ignored or couldn't speak about their issues and quietly watched my trial."
